Myself and another SVA member have recently had substantial awards from the MOD for skin cancer

Sapper Dave..................

Hi Dave.....

One of my HQ148 lads developed skin cancer and on close examination

his surgeon declared that it was a type of cancer which is not obvious until around 50+years after the cause....which in Johns case was excessive exposure to the sun when serving with our unit in the Canal Zone in the 50s.

John was advised to claim and was awarded approx £3000.

The skin cancer is now cured.

Like many of the lads John is without a computer and asked me to pass on this info on his behalf.

If you feel there would be any advantage in making known Johns experience on the Suez Veterans Association  website he is happy to agree.

We went public with this info about a year ago so forgive us if it is old news even so it may help a vet through difficult times.

 Den Aston.

CHRISTMAS COMES EARLY
IN AUSTRALIA

I thought that I would let you know that Christmas has come early this year, I made a claim with the MOD regarding skin cancer, when my Doctor completed had supplid the Department with the relative details, I had at the time had nine skin lesion removed, then  three of weeks ago I had to have three more skin lesion removed. I am pleased to say that my claim was accepted and I received quite a substantial amount of money in my bank account. Without being a member of SVA I would never have known about thisSkin Cancer Fund with the MOD.

THE NEW MEMBERS BOOK

Having recently joined the Suez Veterans Association I was surprised to hear from a member who remembers me.
He called me as a result of my name being listed as a new member
He said that I had loaned him a book on Palestine and he still has it.
I have misplaced his name and details. Can I through your good offices request that whoever he was please call me again so thst we can meet up.
I live in Banbury and I remember he lives in Abingdon which is not very far away.
Keep up an excellent information site
Regards..............  Jim Unwin

Hi Dave,

I want you to know how much I appreciate the value I am now getting from being a member of the S.V.A. After nearly sixty years of being in contact with nobody from my old unit, in the last week I have been in touch with three veterans of 169 Railway Workshop Squadron. Two of them were not in the unit when I was there but I have now e-mailed an ex Sapper who served in the unit at the same time as me and is resident in Australia. I await his reply and hope we can exchange some memories, some good, some bad, for I know that we both remember a fatality in the unit whilst on guard duty.

Many thanks to you for the obvious input you undertake for the S.V.A. which must result in events like I am experiencing.

     Regards,  Derek
